Environment Keys

Store API keys securely and pass them to games launched from UnlockedKit.

Environment Keys let Lua mods use API credentials without placing secret values in project files or Lua source.

UnlockedKit stores values in Windows Credential Manager. Only each variable name is shown after it is saved; the value is not returned to the application frontend.

Add a key

  1. Open Settings in UnlockedKit.
  2. Find Environment keys.
  3. Enter a supported name, such as EXAMPLE_API_KEY.
  4. Paste the secret value and select Save key.
  5. Launch the game from UnlockedKit.

Saving the same name again replaces its stored value.

Read a key from Lua

local api_key = assert(ue.secrets.get("EXAMPLE_API_KEY"))

The variables are passed to games when they are launched from UnlockedKit. A game that is already running does not receive keys added or changed later; restart it from UnlockedKit.

Supported names

Names use uppercase ASCII letters, digits, and underscores and must either:

  • end in _API_KEY, such as EXAMPLE_API_KEY; or
  • begin with ULOADER_SECRET_, such as ULOADER_SECRET_EXAMPLE.

These rules match the names accepted by ue.secrets.get.

Remove a key

Select Remove beside the stored name and confirm the prompt. Removal affects future game launches. A running game keeps the environment it received when it started.

Security

Every trusted Lua mod running in the game can read allowed environment keys. Only run scripts you trust, never print secret values, and avoid logging authorization headers.

Environment Keys are global to games launched from the current Windows user account; they are not stored inside a Lua project.
